MNTC Students Interview With National TV Group
A group of Moore Norman Technology Center students had the opportunity to interview with the Channel One Network for a show they'll soon air on the topics of personal finance, credit, debt and saving for their futures.
MNTC Accounting, and Entrepreneurship students listened to a presentation by Clay Wilber, CPA of the Norman-based company Eide Bailly, LLC. Wilber presented "Freshman Finance 101" that covered topics on credit cards, personal finance histories, why they matter and what they can do now to begin a solid foundation for financial freedom. He is traveling around the state conducting these presentations in conjunction with the National American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and a Financial Literacy Project for the state that focuses information to high school and young adult students about debt, credit, savings and retirement.
Other topics Wilber introduced to the group were:
- Creating a spending & savings plan
- Understanding the good & bad of credit
- ID Theft
- Checking credit reports annually free of charge through U.S. credit bureaus
- Tips for a strong credit history
As a bonus in learning, students from MNTC's Digital Video Production class were on-hand to observe how a small national group conducts interviews and what they film for a show geared toward teens.
According to Channel One's website, www.channelone.com, their mission is to spark debate and discussion among teens and young people and their parents and educators on the important issues affecting young people in America. The 12-minute news broadcasts are delivered daily to more than six million teens in middle and high schools across the country. The session was set up through the Oklahoma Society of CPAs and Channel One.

Norman North High School Senior and MNTC Entrepreneurship student Connor McCaffney interviews with Channel One Reporter Steven Fabian during the "Freshman Finance 101" presentation filmed at MNTC for Channel One's national show to air later this year.
