MNTC Summer Youth Academy Openings Still Available

Parents looking for an educational option for students this summer should consider Moore Norman Technology Center’s 13th annual Summer Youth Academy. Students ages 9 to 14 (exceptions are the HD Videography and Car Care Basics classes, for 15-16 year olds only) have over 120 classes to choose from in the learning areas of technical and engineering, health and medical, personal interest and more. The first sessions begin June 9 and the last sessions run the week of July 7.

Enrollment begins Monday, March 31 at 7:30 a.m. Enrollments may be taken the following ways:

• In-person at MNTC’s Information and Enrollment Center, inside Main Entrance B at the Franklin Road Campus, 4701 12th Ave. NW in Norman
• In-person at the South Penn Campus, SW 134th and Penn in south Oklahoma City.

All classes are $70 and MNTC provides all materials and supplies. Students are in the week-long classes from either 9 a.m. to noon, or 1 to 4 p.m. The only class fee exceptions are the MED Camp and the CSI Camp, which are each $125, and students are in class for daylong sessions Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Graphic Design, Severe Weather, Digital Photography, Manners Matter, CO2 Car Racing, Hair Rage, Aerospace / Flight, Cartooning, Bicycle Repair, Beginning Guitar, Small Engine Repair and Better Babysitting are just a few of the summer classes kids can experience through SYA. The programs challenge kids in their specific areas of interest and give them the opportunity to explore programs not available during the regular school year.

Classes are age appropriate and instruction is delivered through guided activities, hands on practice and lab activities. Age groups are divided into nine-11 year-olds, and 12-14 year-olds. The only exceptions are the HD Videography and Car Care Basics classes, specifically for 15-16 year olds.

Instructors are Moore, Norman, and Metro area schoolteachers, former students, and local professionals. All classes are limited to a maximum often students. Girl and Boy Scouts may also check with their scout leaders, as many of the classes meet their merit badge requirements.
