MNTC Digital Video Production Class Earns Honors
Moore Norman Technology Center’s Digital Video Production students came away with much success after entering multiple projects in a media competition through the 2008 Oklahoma Student Media Festival. The event was sponsored by the Oklahoma Technology Association and Oklahoma State University’s College of Education.
This was the first time MNTC instructor Chris Kalinski’s morning and afternoon classes have entered projects into contest, but surely won’t be the last. “I’m so proud of all my students. They put their projects out there, not just for the judges, but for other students from long-standing programs to critique. That’s not an easy thing to do, but they did exceptionally well on their scores and now we can really see where we stand in terms of quality of our program,” Kalinski said.
The DVP program started in Fall 2007 and offers students the opportunity to work with the latest in high-definition equipment and software available today and used in industry. Students also learn all aspects of pre-and post-production work, making them highly marketable to today’s high-tech film and video industry.
Out of scores of 100, MNTC’s students earned two scores of 99 and one perfect score of 100. Awards were judged and scored earning ratings of Merit (80-89), Excellence (90-94) and Superior (95-100). Students were required to perform all work associated with the production of each project, including writing, producing, directing, filming, editing, graphics and photography.
Entries were taken from any individual or group of students attending a public or private school in Oklahoma. Some of the categories were: animation, sequential stills, interactive stills, live action, single photograph and website. Each entry had to have the purpose of “instruction” for the viewer. This could be through a story, documentary, entertainment or persuasion.
The following are the students and their projects entered:
Jared Abbott and Drew Velasquez - PSA, Title: Regret (Anti-Drinking), Score: 100
Alyssa Lucash and Emily Matthews - PSA, Title: Cell Phone Use While Driving, Score: 99
